Care is coordinated from the moment of first contact, in the emergency department or outpatient clinics, through acute treatment and neurological rehabilitation.
The UCLA Stroke Center provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic care of patients with disorders of blood vessels of the brain and spinal cord, including:
- Ischemic Stroke
- Transient Ischemic Attack
- Carotid Stenosis
- Cerebral Hemorrhage
- Aneurysms / Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
- Vascular Malformations of the Brain
- Spinal Vascular Malformations
The UCLA Stroke Center opened one of the nation's first dedicated inpatient stroke units which offers state-of-the-art management of patients with brain infarction, brain hemorrhage and other cerebral vascular diseases. Other on-site facilities include a neurological intensive care unit, neurosurgical operating rooms, neuro-endovascular therapy suites, a clinical cerebral blood flow laboratory, stereotactic radiology rooms and an outpatient clinic.
Our programs are designed to be responsive to the needs of patients, referring physicians, and managed care payers. Clinical pathways, standardized outcome measures, continuous quality review and multidisciplinary expertise assure excellence in patient management.
As part of an academic medical center, we are constantly in the process of analyzing our clinical results, and reporting them to the medical community at large. This process, which results in presentations at national medical conferences and publications in the medical literature, allows us to judge our work critically, in an effort to constantly improve quality of care.
Quality Measures and Stroke Process Improvement
UCLA Health is committed to delivering the highest quality care according to nationally-recognized clinical care process improvement guidelines. By complying with these processes, UCLA Health improves outcomes for patients treated in our facilities, and helps to reduce patients' risks for another adverse event requiring emergency care or hospitalization. Additional information on our core measures can be found on our Quality website.
